The work happens before year-end.
Almost everything that determines a tax outcome is decided during the year. By filing season, the year is closed and the return simply reports what already happened.
So the practice is organized around the calendar instead of the deadline. Filing is one month of the year. The other eleven are where the outcome is actually decided.
Starting out
Before anything else, I review your last three years of income tax returns. Not to second-guess whoever prepared them, but because patterns show up across years that a single return never reveals: missed elections, positions worth revisiting, deductions left on the table.
From there, a current-year projection and your first written strategy. Most clients come out of the first sixty days with a clearer picture of their tax situation than they've had in years.
Four seasons, not one
SpringReset
We meet to review what happened, what it means, and what the year ahead should look like. Your written strategy is updated while last year is still fresh.
SummerSteady
Quarterly estimates go out with an explanation, not just a number. A mid-year check on whether anything has drifted from the plan.
FallDecide
The year-end planning call, timed while decisions can still change the outcome. Retirement contributions, conversion windows, timing of income and expenses, entity-level moves. This is the most valuable conversation of the year.
WinterFile
Documents come in, returns get prepared, questions get answered. Nothing here should be a surprise, because the decisions were made in the fall.
The same CPA, every year.
You work with me. I do the planning, review and sign your returns, and answer your questions myself. Some preparation work is supported by vetted professionals under my direction, but the judgment, the advice, and the relationship stay with me.
No account manager routing your question to someone else. No rotating preparer relearning your situation every January.
The practice is virtual by design. Documents move through a secure portal, meetings happen by video, and nothing depends on being in the same city.
The practice is capped at 100 clients.
That constraint is the point. Two planning calls a year, a strategy that gets revisited, and a reply to every message within one business day are only possible at a size where the number of clients is intentional.
Who this isn't for
Being direct about this saves us both time.
- If you want the cheapest possible return,
- this isn't the right fit.
- If you want someone to file what you send and nothing more,
- you're paying for planning you won't use.
- If you're looking for aggressive positions,
- we won't be a match. Everything here is defensible, documented, and the kind of thing I'd be comfortable explaining to an examiner.
